The final game on day four of VCT Stage 2 Masters – Reykjavík sees the European side of Team Liquid against the LATAM side of KRÜ Esports in a lower bracket elimination match. While KRÜ was able to overcome the yng Sharks in their previous matchup, all signs (and analysts) pointed toward a Team Liquid win in this series.

Starting on KRÜ’s map pick of Split, Team Liquid managed to pick up the pistol and second round quite convincingly, with a flawless in the second round of the game. KRÜ managed to find their footing on round three once they got rifles in their hands, and were able to execute cleanly onto B-site. Team Liquid immediately struck back, putting four consecutive rounds on the board and making the scoreline 6-1 midway through the half. Unfortunately for KRÜ, Liquid’s momentum didn’t stop as they stormed to a strong 10-2 half.

With the pressure mounting for KRÜ, they weren’t able to pick up any rounds in the second half as Team Liquid continued pushing forward with three in a row to close out Split with a decisive scoreline of 13-2.

Moving into Team Liquid’s pick of Haven, Liquid carried over their momentum from Split to pick up the first two rounds of the half. KRÜ showed up and quickly put five consecutive rounds on the board, including two back-to-back three kill rounds by Nicolas “Klaus” Ferrari and Roberto “Mazino” Rivas respectively. The remainder of the half went back-and-forth, but ultimately concluded with Travis “L1NK” Mendoza putting up three kills to close the half 7-5 in favor of KRÜ.

The second half of Ascent opened up with KRÜ taking the first two rounds, putting up a flawless round against the Team Liquid force buy in the second round. Team Liquid was able to win back in the third round using a near full Sheriff purchase. Unfortunately for KRÜ, this third round win sparked an avalanche of rounds for Team Liquid – as they were able to put together eight consecutive rounds to swiftly close out the map 13-9, taking the series 2-0 and eliminating KRÜ.

This result will see Team Liquid moving forward to face Team Vikings on Friday, May 28th to decide who will advance in the loser’s bracket and who will be knocked out of the tournament. Unfortunately this is the end of the road for KRÜ Esports, as they are now out of VCT Masters: Reykjavík being the fourth team eliminated, though putting up a great showing for the first international Valorant event.
