On the fourth day of VCT Stage 2 Masters – Reykjavík, our second game sees Fnatic against X10 Esports in a lower bracket elimination match. Despite the strong performances of X10 thus far in the tournament, the analysts and community agreed that the European-side of Fnatic should take this series and advance through the lower bracket.
The match kicked off on Icebox, the map pick of Fnatic. Fnatic started on defense, and immediately began showing why Icebox is their pick as they stormed to a six round winning streak. X10 was finally able to put up their first round after a heroic effort from Itthirit “Foxz” Ngamsaard to grab four kills and take the round. However, X10 failed to capitalize on this round win as Fnatic answered back with two rounds of their own, putting the scoreline at 8-1. X10 was able to rally back and close the half with the final three rounds, ending their attacking half at 8-4 with Fnatic in the lead.
Unfortunately for X10, Fnatic kicked off the second half with a win on the pistol and followed this up with four consecutive rounds to close out Icebox, winning with a dominant 13-4 scoreline.
Moving into the second map of Haven, X10 was able to find success early by snagging the pistol round and countering the next two force-buys from Fnatic to put them in an early 3-0 lead. Fnatic found the fourth round which kicked off a massive win-streak to close out the half with nine consecutive rounds. Despite the attempts of Nutchapon “sScary” Matarat to clutch out the 7th round, Fnatic was able to shut X10 down and storm to a 9-3 lead moving into the second half.
The second half of Haven started with X10 winning both their attack side pistol and second round, slowly decreasing the gap in the scoreline. After Fnatic was able to win a close third round, X10 struck back winning two rounds back-to-back – making the scoreline 10-7.
After a handful of back-and-forth rounds, Fnatic hit map and match point in round 19, with X10 needing to put up five rounds in a row to stay alive and take the map to overtime. X10 were able to win two rounds, bringing the scoreline to 12-9, however, Fnatic were ultimately able to win the map in round 22 following a huge 3v5 clutch led by James “Mistic” Orfila and Domagoj “Doma” Fancev.
With this result, Fnatic will continue their lower bracket run and will face-off against Version1 on Friday, May 28th. Unfortunately for X10, they are now out of VCT Masters: Reykjavík being the third team to be eliminated. X10 was able to surprise many at the tournament with their outgoing personalities and dominant individual play, and we look forward to seeing X10 in further international events!
