In a nearly 8-minute video, Cloud9 Blue have revealed the new direction the team will be taking. Son “xeta” Seon-ho will become a permanent member of the roster, and for now will still be playing from Korea, though plans are in place to get him to North America as soon as possible. Coming over with him from the Cloud9 Korea team will be Yoon “autumn” Eu-teum, the team’s new head coach.
In the video, Cloud9 Blue’s General Manager Seunghwan “Robin” Lee, formerly the manager for Cloud9 Korea, reveals his decision making process. The loss of Tyson “TenZ” Ngo was somewhat unexpected, and they decided to fill the gaps using the success the disbanded Cloud9 Korea had had. xeta had been practicing with the team for about a week before the Nerd Street Gamers – Winter Championship, and they were ultimately happy with the results. They believe xeta is the best option for them and will continue to play with him even from Korea for the VALORANT Champions Tour. Furthermore, Daniel “vice” Kim will be taking up the IGL role for the team. Ultimately, once xeta and autumn can get over to North America from Korea and COVID-19 makes it possible, they want to have the team all move and practice in one place. Finally, a 6-man roster is not out of the question. While nothing was said in the video about his presence, POIZ, also known as DOINKMACHINE97, a highly-rated ranked player, is currently listed under Cloud9 Blue’s roster in the Battlefy page for the Challengers 1 – Open Qualifier.
While I think many fans would put the current Cloud9 Blue situation in a lower position than their old squad would have been, I also think it’s certain that they’re (slowly) moving in the right direction. xeta has already proven himself to be an exciting piece, and a successful coach like autumn should also help the team immensely.
Cloud9 Blue are now:
Mitch “mitch” Semago
Skyler “Relyks” Weaver
Daniel “vice” Kim
Nathan “leaf” Orf
Son “xeta” Seon-ho
Yoon “autumn” Eu-teum (Head coach)
